C: Morphogenesis, mechanobiology and imaging
Weeks 15–21
How do identical cells organise themselves into a tissue with a shape? How do cells feel and respond to forces? We look at active materials that shape themselves, the cytoskeleton and adhesion, the physics of adherent cells, differential adhesion and the Cellular Potts model, Turing patterns versus positional information, and the new microscopy that lets us see living tissue without labels.
